The picture of Hendrix in the ADFS
Extra Info. was superb. Shame there
was not room for the guitar!
EDITOR.... Hard Luck! But he is a
guitarist. He can sure play the Blues.

Can any member advise what happened to
this user group for the Hybrid M5000?
I used to subscribe but lost contact
around June 1992. What number issue
did they reach and would anybody be
prepared to copy their last issues for
me if I were to send blank discs etc?
Thank you.

Now that 8bS has taken over the BBCPD
support for the 512, I would be very
interested to hear from other users of
this remarkable system. I make good
use of mine for various applications
and wonder what use other 512 owners
put theirs to.

Subject: 8BS BULLETIN BOARD
Chris (our Ed.) has asked us to give
it a thought about him setting up a
bulletin board. It all sounds exciting
but I'm not sure what is needed and of
course the cost. If Chris could give us
all a little idea of what we will have
to get/buy/pay out and do, it would put
us in the picture a bit.(Thanks Chris)
PS. Is this thing in my Master called
*TERMINAL anything to do with it?
EDITOR....... There have been a couple
of responses to the mention of a
bulletin board. This has not really been
enough for me to discuss the matter
seriously with the 8BS member that
volunteered to set one up. However,
there is already a bulletin board being
run by an 8BS member. See the Regular
Contact article for more details.

Subject: B.B.C. TO ROMANIA
As explained last month a consignment
of five complete systems were sent
to school 22 in Criaova these were
model B,s with 40 track drives. Two had
colour monitors 3 were mono and two
printers these were very welcome as I
had installed WORDWISE in some of the
machines so I am hoping when they have
a bit more experience we may get a
letter or even a disc or two.
I would like to take this opportunity
to thank members who have contributed
to this project whether with
information equipment, books or just
good wishes. These include ROY DICKENS
TOM CHILTON DANIEL SHIMMIN and GRAHAM
GALLAGER my thanks to you all. I am
still receiving bits, and these will
go on the next lorry hopefully in
DECEMBER if the roads in Romania are
up to heavy traffic. If not, it will
be the new year

Subject: USER INFORMATION & B.Bs
In issue 37 there was a request for
help regarding SIDEWAYS ROM S/W RAM
SHADOW ROM and EPROMS the request was
anonymous and I wondered why, I am
sure the answers would be of interest
to others. It is like the child in the
class room who thinks he or she is the
only one who does not understand the
subject and so is reluctant to ask
questions. I am glad you asked as it
has made me reply to the question of
an 8 BIT B.B apart from the normal
use to access P.D Software it would be
nice to have a newcomers help line
where we the less informed could ask
for info and help from the vast amount
of talent in the membership.
I am 47 years old and have only come
to computing in the last 12 months or
so but have been guilty of using my
B.B.C but not really understanding
HOW IT WORKS. I have picked up enough
to get by but if I am honest it is
only surface knowledge but from the
response in the help wanted and some
of the excelent 8 BIT discs I have
learnt quite a bit since joining and
have always found that the members are
only too pleased to share their
expertise with we mere MORTALS. So
yes please to the B.B if poss and can
someone tell me how you get to use
side 2 of a disc from the side 0 menu
a every time I SHIFT/BREAK on side 2 i
return to the side 0 menu. My thanks
to you all for a great MAG please keep
it coming.

Subject: Charges/subs etc
Sorry to start the debate up again
after it had appeared to die down, but
how about an optional subscription so
that either
i) you pay a sum of money at the
beginning of a subscription for 6/12
months, that would cover discs,
handlin, postage and copying, or
ii) You get each 8BS issue seperately
as normal
By having a six or twelve month
subscription it would mean that you
could be sure of getting it instead of
having to remember to send of your
disc. By having the two options people
could also try out 8BS without
commitment.
Comments/abuse on the subject welcome!

How about having a "Debate" part on
the magazine disc menu, where certain
subjects could be argued/discussed.
Possible starter subjects could be:
Charges (see other message)
Piracy
Archimedes inclusion in the user

Subject: WEIGHTS & MEASURES PUZZLE
Here's another short and simple puzzle
(for those who know the answer!) to
tax the little grey brain cells:
A greengrocer has a set of scales and
4 weights. With only 1 weigh
he can give his customers any amount
of vegetables weighing between
1 and 40 lbs (no ounces).
What are his 4 weights ?
Example: 5lb + VEG 10lb = 5lb
Example: 5lb+ 10lb VEG = 15lb
PS. This puzzle took me about 4 hours
to complete in 3 lunch breaks and two
evenings, but I did get a bit bogged
down.
Also, for those who don't wish to use
pen and paper I'm sure you could write
a short program to search and test for
the right combination of weights.
Best of luck. Answer in the next
issue.
