Hello and Welcome!
------------------
Hello, everybody and welcome to the
second issue of the BBC User Group
advert, or BUG for short!
Before I continue, here is a brief
history of the group and how it came
about.
For those of you who subscribe to other
BBC disczines, see below, you may have
seen some of the things that I (Jon
Ripley) have submitted in the last year
to issues of both of these magazines,
comments from Chris Richardson showed
me that I was, in a way, writing half
of the 8BS magazine myself, inundating
him with software for each issue!
Weeks passed and as a postscript to a
letter I joked that maybe I would be
the editor of a BBC magazine, thinking
nothing of it I licked the envelope and
posted it off to 8BS HQ. A few more
weeks and now a phone call with Chris
pointing out that starting up a user
group might not be such a bad idea!
The idea of me starting up my own user
group, yikes! The startling response
that I had had from my submissions to
8BS and Solinet played a big part in my
decision!
I needed a few weeks to think about it
and I think that my final decision is
obvious. I have however, done this at a
sacrifice, the group takes up a lot of
my spare time but that's why I do it,
because I love it!
Well to cut a long story short, here it
is, well here's an advert for it
anyway! With your support, it's here to
stay! There have been many user groups
in recent years that have begun, lasted
a few issues and died, BUG, again, with
your support is here to stay!!!
BBC USER GROUP was the result and three
issues on it is still going and issue 4
has been filling fast!
BUG is a non profit making user group
which I run in my spare time.
BUG is looking for new members and
submissions for it's issues. There
are about 6 issues yearly.
Membership is free!
Each issue costs only `1, a bit more
expensive than 8-Bit but I can't sell
it for any less, you can send a disc
with return postage and packing. Issues
are available on 80T double sided DFS
discs. If you have a single sided drive
the issue can be supplied on two 80T
single sided discs.
If you would like to become a member
please contact me and I will issue you
with a member ID, if you would like to
receive the next issue as soon as it
comes out or any of the previous
issues, send your discs now.
At the moment BUG can only handle
5.25" (40T/80T DFS/ADFS) discs
although in the future discs will be
available in all formats. The DFS and
ADFS discs contain the same magazine.
Issue 5 is due out on:
1st April 1997.
Deadline for issue 5 is:
Anytime before that!
Please ensure that your
submissions discs reach me by
this date for issue 5.
Please send your formatted
discs, `1's and return
postage and packing to:

Cheques should be made out to
J.J.Ripley.
IMPORTANT! When sending envelopes
containing discs they should be
clearly marked 'MAGNETIC MEDIA'. Coins
should preferably be taped to a piece
of card so they won't tear the
envelope and get lost in the post.
Here is a brief look at the main menu
on issue 4 of the magazine. This will
give you a chance to see the sort of
thing you might expect on each issue.
This takes a brief look at everything
on the issue and gives you all the
information about the next issue and
how to contact me.
Each issue this section contains all
the main articles that appear on each
and every issue of the magazine.
This section of the magazine contains
messages and articles submitted by the
members of the group.
In this section you will find all the
other articles appearing on the issue,
except for the information and
instructions for the programs which are
found in the appropriate menu.
In this regular section you will find
the magazine utilities and their
respective instructions.
This new regular section contains a
selection of good music and great
graphics. It replaces the 10 liners /
1 Liners menu.
Each issue a selection of Games and
Demos will be in this section.
More applications and utilities that
you simply cannot live without!
The BUG messaging system itself, this
program allows you to create messages
for inclusion in the magazine. This is
version 2.04C and has more features
than version 2.00C used in 8BS.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this
advert and look forward to hearing from
you!
Just a brief final note, Chris and I
are not in competiton with each other
for members or submissions, in fact we
help each other out wherever possible!
