Subject: Benchmark programs
Has there every been a set of
benchmark programs so that relative
speeds between different Acorn models
could be assessed. Tests that work on
8bit and Risc models plus emulators.
Preferably tests that eliminate the
unrealistic speed results of cached
processors. Writing to the screen,
shifting large chunks of memory
repeatedly all the usual stuff. I know
there probably has I'm just ignorant
of its existence.
Also perhaps part of the same program
above, information on what processor
etc, so you can tell exactly what type
of BBC you have. It would state RAM,
Shadow RAM, Sideways etc plus ROMs
fitted. Disk interface chip, 2nd
processors etc.
Also how about a nice program for
hunting out BBC screens and displaying
them that can move between filing
systems easily. Recognising them by
their file size would be fine. Again
there may be such a program already
but I'm unaware of it. A simple key
press or up and down menu would enable
movement between drives 0,1,2,3 and
hard drive 4.

Subject: Wanted RAM chips
4x 424260-80 type RAM chips (512k each
in size).
Perhaps you have an old SIMM that
has this type of memory chip fitted.
The -80 bit is the speed of the chip
so it shouldn't matter if this is
between 60 and 100 instead of 80.
Obviously it doesn't have to be a SIMM
it could be some other expansion board
but the point being is it has to be
something only worth scrapping as
you'd get 8 such chips on a 4MEG SIMM
for ten pounds new so I'm only really
interested in paying about 3 pounds
for the four second hand or if you
had a 4MEG SIMM with these on I'd pay
about 7 pounds. I think this is an
older type memory chip so it may be
more likely to find 2 on a 1 MEG SIMM
or 4 (2 on each side) on a 2MEG SIMM.
Because I need them to fit in sockets
they have to be the right type. The
ones already fitted to the board are
made by NEC.
